Phyllis Mae (Dahl) Wilcox

Phyllis Stenberg Wilcox, 87, of Bemidji, MN died Monday, October 2, 2017 at Cedar Cottage, Bemidji.

Memorial Services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 20, 2017 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji with Pastor Linnea Papke-Larson officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Samhold Cemetery, Gonvick, MN.

Phyllis Mae Dahl Stenberg Wilcox was born May 6, 1930 to parents Ole and Betsy (Swenson) Dahl on the farm just west of Gonvick, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Samhold Lutheran Church there. She attended country school in District #33 and graduated from Gonvick High School in 1948. She then went to work at Investors Diversified Syndicate (IDS) in Minneapolis. On October 11, 1952, she married Raymond E. Stenberg in Gonvick. They lived in Thief River Falls, Bagley and Bemidji. Ray passed away on January 1, 1985. On June 14, 1986 she married Robert H. Wilcox. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church, Lioness, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She belonged to the hospital auxiliary and Town and Country Homemakers. She volunteered for her church and the hospital. She enjoyed her volunteer work, reading and playing cards. She truly was a “people person.”

Phyllis is survived by two children, Cynthia Stenberg (David Sovde) of Bemidji and Kevin Stenberg (Vicki Copeland) of Billings, MT; two step-daughters, Sue Butler of Roseau and DeeDee Wilcox of Litchfield; 2 grandchildren, Michael Stenberg of Big Sky, MT and Jessica Stenberg of Billings, MT; 2 step-grandchildren, Steven (Christy) Sovde of Bemidji and Sara Butler of Ames, IA; she had several step great-grandchildren including her special one, Courtney L. Sovde. She is also survived by one sister, Esther Olson of Silver Bay, MN and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husbands; parents; 2 brothers, Gilman and Francis Dahl; 1 sister, Della Hughes and two nephews, David Olson and Ryan Dahl; as well as the husbands of her sisters, Bert Hughes and Tenny Olson.
