Orville Berg

H. Orville Berg died on September 17, 2017 at Sanford Medical Center, in Bemidji, MN.  He was 97 years old.  He and Marian, his wife of 53 years, have currently been residing at Tamarack Assisted Living Facility, Bemidji.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 22, 2017 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Solway Cemetery.

Orville was born on November 1, 1919 in Coleville, Saskatchewan, Canada. He was the 4th child, and the first son of Henry Oscar Berg and Carrie Suzanna Heimark. Orville was baptized in Coleville. When Orville was one year old the family moved to the farm south of Solway, MN and lived in a log cabin for about 5 years until a frame house was built. Orville attended the Solway School through 8th Grade. He attended and was confirmed at the Solway Lutheran Church. He then worked with his father full-time on the farm. Orville left the farm to serve in the US Army from 1941-1945 as a medic. He did not serve overseas due to an accident while he was in training in California. Orville and Marian Buelow of Waconia, MN were married October 26, 1963.  Orville and Marian continued to live and work on the farm until 1980.  On retirement, they moved to Bemidji. Orville was a life-long member of the Solway Lutheran Church.

Orville was preceded in death by his parents; his youngest sibling and only brother, Calvin in 1970; sisters, Camilla Leonard in 1985, Hazel Berg in 2003, Marion Skibsrud in 2007 and Doris Berg in 2017.

Orville is survived by his wife, Marian; nephews Richard and David Leonard; H Peter, John and Jake (Maria) Skipsrud; David (Debra) Hjortland, Jonathon (Laurie) Berg and nieces; Sally Bell and Rachel (David) Christensen.
