Marcella Mae Melberg, 93 a long time resident of Bemidji, died Friday, July 5th at Birchwood Cottages in Owatonna, Minnesota
Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M., Friday, July 12, 2019 at First Lutheran Church, Bemidji with Pastor Linnea Papke-Larson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji. Arrangements were entrusted to the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bemidji.
Marcella was born Lily Violet Yule May 24, 1926 to George and Lillian Yule in Fargo, ND. Following the death of her mother, Louie and Anna Mickelson adopted her in Fargo at the age of ten weeks. She attended grade school in Wild Rice, ND. Marcy graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1944 and was later employed in the business office of Northwestern Bell in Fargo. Marcella married Charles Melberg on June 29, 1950 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Moorhead, MN. They lived in Moorhead, Grand Rapids, Bagley and Bemidji. After the death of her husband Charles, Marcy remained in Bemidji for many years until a fall required her to move to Owatonna MN to be closer to her daughter Dianna.
In addition to raising her three children she touched many lives through her involvement in community and church activities. Marcy was a devoted church member in each community that she and her husband lived. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She will be particularly remembered for the thousands of greeting cards that she sent to family and friends over the years. While in Bemidji, Marcy also loved spending time at Raphaels and the Senior Center.
Marcy is survived by her son Dan Melberg, Grand Forks ND, daughter Dianna (David) Verley, Owatonna MN, son David Melberg, Escondido CA, four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, adopted parents, sister Ruth (Yule) Rudeen, brother Elwin (Al) Yule, and daughter in law Roxanne (Klasen) Melberg.
