After a long battle with dementia, Jvonne went home Saturday, November 2, 2019.
She was born September 17, 1923, the only child of Arthur Elmer and Ella (Holmberg) Granlund in Garfield, MN. When she was very young, her family moved to Superior, WI, where she grew up and attended school, graduating from Superior Central High School in 1941. Jvonne married Thomas J. Gray on March 6, 1944 in Superior, WI.
Jvonne was a small woman with a big personality. She was a figure skater, a talented seamstress and an amazing cook and baker, sharing her Swedish heritage with specialty breads and desserts. Jvonne traveled the world with family and on her own; riding camels in Egypt, climbing the Eifel Tower and staying at a sheep ranch in New Zealand. She also never missed a football, baseball or hockey game as long as her grandsons were playing.
Jvonne is survived by her children, Cheryl (Steve) Christlieb and Marleen (Moe) Webb of Bemidji, Marsha (Barry) Young of Oak Grove, Timothy (Tyla) Gray of Arden Hills and Lynn Lightfoot of Crystal Lake, IL; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one brother-in-law, C. Leo Gray of Lakeville.
Jvonne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 9, 2019 at St. Philips Catholic Church, Bemidji. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, November 8, 2019 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji with a 7 p.m. prayer service followed by the rosary. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Bemidji.
The family requests memorials be made to St. Philip’s Church, St. Philip’s School or a charity of your choice.
