Joy Marlene (Batchelder) Albers

Joy Albers, 84, of Bemidji, MN died Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center surrounded by her family.

Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Neilson Place, Bemidji with Pastor John Yingling officiating.  Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji. Arrangements were entrusted to the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bemidji.

Joy Marlene Batchelder was born March 6, 1933 in Bemidji to Ira and Wanda (Hartman) Batchelder.  She grew up and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1951. Joy married her high school sweetheart, Darold Albers, on May 4, 1951 by Rev. Thomas Smatla. Darold’s military career would bring their family to France, which allowed them to travel to many countries in Europe. In 1962, they moved to Williams Air Force Base in Arizona. They would then be stationed in Texas and then Duluth and finally coming home to Bemidji in 1971. Joy was quite interested in her genealogical background, being able to trace her heritage back to the Mayflower. She was an avid knitter.  Designing and knitting Christmas stockings for all of her siblings, children, grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Cake decorating was another specialty of Joy’s-where she created special cakes for weddings, anniversaries and birthdays.  She was known to create beautiful scenic sugar Easter eggs, Christmas candy houses and wedding cakes for her family.   She was ardent reader and gardener. Her most precious time was spent with her loving family. She truly lived for her family.

She is survived by daughters, Susan (Dan) Stark of Bemidji and Linda (Walt) Floyd of Wauwatosa, WI; sons, Michael (Kris) Albers of Wahpeton, ND and Phil Albers of Bemidji; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and brothers, Ira (Shirley) Batchelder of Bemidji; Ronald Batchelder of Bemidji and sister, Mary Morton of Bemidji.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Darold Albers.
