Joan Hirt

Joan Hirt, 77, of Bemidji, MN died Sunday, August 27, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Memorial Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 2, 2017 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji with Rev. Ron Gladen officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Bemidji.

Urn bearers will be all of Joan’s grandchildren.

Joan Fenske was born August 10, 1940 to Walt and Elaine Fenske. She attended Carr Lake School and graduated from Bemidji High School. On June 11, 1960 she married Robert (Bones) Hirt in Bemidji where they raised their family. Joan and Robert had 5 children, losing a daughter, Lynn, in 1965. She worked at the clinic and hospital as a nurse’s aide, helped with 4-H and Girl Scouts, Higgins Heating and was a bookkeeper for Hirt Trucking from 1973 to the present time. Joan sold Avon starting in 1980 for 37 years. She enjoyed watching Robert “Bones” curl and loved traveling with him to many bonspiels. Joan followed all sports and was proud of her kids and grandchildren and tried to always go the extra mile for all. She also enjoyed spending time with friends and her dog Zoey.

She is survived by 4 children, Robert (Peggy) Hirt of Bemidji and their family, Jessica (Brian), Braken & Tryg, Michael (Sheila) Hirt of Bemidji and their family, Joey (Sarah), Brielle & Brendan, Ashley, Elizabeth (Rylee), Haley, Korban & Carson, Madison, James Hirt of Bemidji and his family, Kayla & Ryan, and Jennifer (Dane) Jones of Bemidji and her family, Jenna & Rylie; sister, Nancy (Ron Gladen) of Bemidji and brother, Bob (Sandra) Fenske of Marshall; sisters-in-law,  Marge Hirt and Ann (Dan) Gray.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walt & Elaine Fenske; Robert & Hilda Saar; Herman & Ida Fenske; husband, Robert “Bones” Hirt; daughter, Lynn Marie Hirt; and 2 brothers-in-law, Don Hirt and Tip Hirt.
