Ione Louise (Vogt) Norby

Ione Louise (Vogt) Norby, of Bemidji, Minnesota, died on October 14, 2018 at GoldPine Home, Bemidji. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 27, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Olson Schwartz Funeral Home, Rev. John Yingling officiating.  Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Sell Lake Cemetery on Sunday October 28, 2018.  She was 94 years old at the time of her death. 

Ione was born on April 2, 1924 to parents Harry and Martha Vogt in a log cabin in Hubbard County, Minnesota.  She grew up on that farm with her sister and brother.  As a teen she had to leave home to work her way through high school.  She graduated from Bemidji High School in 1942.  After graduation she worked in Duluth, MN as a waitress for a year.  Returning to Bemidji, she waitressed at the Oasis Supper club.  While employed there she met and married Wally Norby on October 15, 1944.  They remained married until his death in 2004.  During her married life she was primarily a homemaker and mother.  When financial need arose in 1960 she worked for a year at the Mileage Café.  When her daughters were grown she worked for a few years at Neilson’s Bakery.  Ione ran a daycare out of her home for over 20 years.  She became so close to some of her families they became lifelong friends.  She belonged to church circle, loved to sew, can, and care for her family. 

She is survived by three daughters, Pamela (Clifford) Haugen, Vicki (Paul) Batzel, and Marilyn “Muffie” Norby, seven grandchildren, Dawn Carpenter (Dugan McDermott), Darren Carpenter (Melissa Kloehn), Dorian Haugen, Paula (Robert) Ferry, Cherubi Batzel, Kit Norby (Dave Jones), Tyler Norby, 5 great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Jeanette Thorson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wallace, sister Lurene, and brother Chan.
