Doris Marian (Watkins) Thorson

Doris Thorson, 92, of Bemidji, MN died Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Touch of Home Assisted Living Facility, Bemidji. Arrangements were entrusted with the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Doris Marian Watkins was born on April 22, 1925 in Bear Creek Twp. of Clearwater Co., the eldest of 12 children born to Charles & Olga (Lindstrom) Watkins. Doris attended Bear Creek School through 8th grade, lived with aunt Mabel to attend 2 years of high school in Bagley and then joined the Bemidji work force. Doris married Earl Thorson in 1945. They owned the Becida Tavern from 1953 - 1971. After Earl's death in 1996, Doris moved to her Red Pine apartment where she lived until September and thereafter at Touch of Home.

Preceding Doris in death were: her parents, husband, son Scott, sisters: Gladys Reid, Donna Fenner, Bonnie Wilander; brothers: Duane (Buck), Dick, Gary and Charlie Jr.

Those who survive Doris are: sons Philip & Burke (Dale) and daughter-in-law, Jeanette Thorson all of Becida; grandchildren James & Cheryl of Texas; Jesse of Lake George, Melissa & Levi of Bemidji, Burkie of Becida, 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters Beverly Roberts of Erhard and Patricia Berg of Bemidji; brothers David (Verna) of Arizona; and Michael of Becida, along with many nieces, nephews and friends, near and far.

Doris loved to be busy and enjoyed family, friends, picking berries, quilting, music, gardening, dancing, cooking, reading, sitting on the deck sunning, watching the birds and PINK.

Because Doris had declared that she did not want a funeral, the family invites friends to a "Do" at the Fern Town Hall on Nov. 25th @ 11:00, where we will have lunch & exchange memories.

Family prefers Memorials to the American Cancer Society.
