Donna Jean (Werner) Eichstadt

Donna Eichstadt, 82, of Bemidji, MN died Monday, September 10, 2019 at Neilson Place, Bemidji.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 19, 2019 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Bemidji with Pastor Genelle Netland officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:45 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji.

Donna Jean Werner was born February 28, 1937 to Louis and Torbjor (Ose) Werner in Bemidji. She attended St. Philips Catholic School through 8th grade and was church organist at St. Philips for 11 years. She then attended Bemidji High School and graduated in top 3 of her class. She went to work as the principal’s secretary at Bemidji High School before going to work for the Bureau of Indian Affairs – Forestry Division as an administration assistant. On June 15, 1957 she married Harold Eichstadt in Bemidji where they raised three daughters. She retired after 26 years at the BIA. Donna and Harold spent winters in the south in Florida, Texas and Arizona until shortly after Harold’s death. After traveling south in retirement she returned to Bemidji and worked part-time at First National Bank. Donna was active in Trinity Lutheran Church playing organ, junior choir director and was in a circle. She was a past president of American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and Sons of Norway. Donna was an active member in the widows group at Calvary Lutheran Church. She enjoyed traveling with her late husband, Harold, as well with her friends. She enjoyed playing cards and participated in a monthly “bridge” club and was still an active part of her class of 1955 reunion committee. Donna enjoyed watching hockey and going on blue line bus trips and later watching her grandsons play. Two of her favorite past times were reading and going to the casinos but most importantly enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Debra (Dave) Dornfeld of Stillwater, Joan (Dean) Winans of Stacy and Patty (Mark) Hendricks of Bemidji; 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; sisters, Lucille McNally, Marjorie Sladky and Winifred Dalzell; brothers, Louis Werner III, Richard Werner, Robert Werner and Rev. Winston Schmock.

Memorials are preferred to American Cancer Society or Wounded Warriors.
