Don Evitts, 58, of Bemidji, MN passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 17, 2018 from heart failure.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji with Pastor Kent Dudley officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 23, 2018 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji.
Don was born in Sumter, SC on December 1, 1959 to Leo Jack Evitts and Lois Marlene Revelee. He grew up in Illinois and attended school in Lyons Township. Don was an avid hunter and fisherman, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family on hunting and fishing trips. Don’s love of the outdoors included riding horses, camping and 4 wheeling. Even in the worst of weather, he always had a smile. Don’s favorite hobby was woodworking, and loved to build picture frames and toys/tools for his grandchildren. Don’s latest adventure was building a 2-story hunting “castle” on his land in northern MN. Don moved to Bemidji in 1978, and started working for North Central Door. He also worked at Ross Lewis Sign Company, Brad’s Sanitation and J&L Trucking. The last 4 years, Don has been sole-proprietor of DLE Trucking, doing custom deliveries for Menards. Don was a proud member of the Sheriff’s Mounted Posse of Cass County, the Minnesota State Coon Hunters Association, Countryside Saddle Club and the NRA.
He is survived by his wife, Pam (married October 4, 1994); sons, John (Holly) of Roseau and James (Stacy) of Climax; daughter, Sarah of Climax; 8 grandchildren; Aiden, Easton, Dylan, Ethan, Tyler, Mason, Lacey and Mallory; 3 step-children, Scott (Chris), Randy (Heidi) and Loriann; 3 step-grandchildren, Courteney, Kelcey and Harlee; 4 step-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Steve and Jack; sister, Melanie and Don’s previous wife and mother of their 3 children, Sherry Niemann.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and Jack and sister, Joyce.
