Charles "Chuck" Edward Deeds

Charles “Chuck” Deeds, 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Neilson Place, Bemidji.

Memorial Services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Neilson Place Bemidji. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at Neilson Place. Inurnment will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Arrangements were entrusted to the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.

Charles Edward Deeds was born on March 11, 1925 in St. Paul, MN to Viola Mae (Crandall) and Charles Ord Deeds. After graduating from Central High School in Minneapolis in 1943, he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps serving until March 1946. He married Aloma Jean Bird of Sioux Falls, SD in 1947. In February 1951 he was recalled to active duty with the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He remained in the Air Force working as a jet engine mechanic with weights and measures certification as well as crew chief for mechanics, until retiring in November 1968. He served in Vietnam in 1966. After his retirement, he returned to school in June 1969, attending Bemidji State University graduating Cum Laude in 1970. He worked for the Federal Government in the Small Business Administration (SBA) until 1979 when he retired and returned to Bemidji with his wife. He was active with the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), serving as local commander in Bemidji as well as the MN State Commander for DAV in 1985. In 1990, he and Aloma moved to Missouri, then Arkansas and finally Blanchard, OK. While living in Searcy, AR, he became active in Masonic work as a 32nd degree Mason, was elected Worshipful Master of the Searcy Chapter and was also involved with the Scottish Rite and the Shrine. In 2009, Charles and Aloma returned to Bemidji.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 68 years, Aloma.

He is survived by his son, Robert (Virginia) Deeds, Bemidji; daughters, Nancy Montgomery, Oklahoma City, OK, Diana Owen, Oklahoma City, OK; son, Terry (Judith) Deeds, Houston, TX; daughter, Linda (Johnny) Stephens, Warr Acres, OK; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
