Charles Anthony Kummer, age 85 of Bemidji, MN died Friday, May 4, 2018 in Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be 2:30 P.M. Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji with Pastor Mike Naylor officiating. Visitation will be for one hour before the service on Saturday at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Northern Township, Bemidji.
Charles Anthony Kummer was born December 31, 1932 in St. Cloud MN to Carl Charles and Josephine Theresa (Schlicht) Kummer. They moved to Bemidji to the north side of Lake Irving and then to Nymore where Charles lived until entering the Air Force in 1951. Charles attended St. Philips Elementary and Bemidji High School. Upon returning from the Air Force, he married Ruth Johnson and they moved to Alaska where he worked for the City of Anchorage, Evans Engine and Equipment, Peter Kiewitt, Morrison Knutson. Moving back to Bemidji he worked for Bemidji Blacktop then opened Kummer Sanitary Landfill. When that closed he worked until retirement for Jon’s Refuse. During retirement he bought and sold aluminum and had a golf driving range.
Survived by son Jon (Donna) Kummer, Bemidji; daughters, Barbara (Randon Lund) Kummer, Mpls, MN; Mary Peterson, Mpls. MN and Patricia (Steven) Simberg, Virginia, MN;
9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and a sister, Kit (Dick) Bahr, Hermantown, MN.
Preceded in death by parents, Carl and Josephine Kummer, Wife, Ruth Kummer and Sister Joan Anywaush.
