Helmuth William (Bill) Krone was born October 14, 1923 in Claire City (Roberts County), South Dakota, to William and Helena (Tesch) Krone.  Bill was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Claire City.  Bill attended a Marshall County Public School in the country.

Bill served in the Navy during World War II on the USS PCS-1461.  Bill was in four major battles including Saipan, Okinawa and Iwo Jima, Japan.  In fact, Bill was a witness to the American Flag being raised atop Mount Suribachi during the battle of Iwo Jima.

Bill married Rhoda (Tudy) Goette on August 14, 1948 in Brown’s Valley, Minnesota.  They moved to South St. Paul, Minnesota where Bill drove a gas truck for Gustafson Oil Company.  Later he owned and operated a DX gas station in West St. Paul.  In 1961, they moved to Mankato, Minnesota where Bill and his brother Conrad owned the Club Royal. After they sold, he continued to work at the Club Royal and later worked for the city of Mankato.

In 1979, they retired and moved to North Long Lake near Brainerd, Minnesota.  Bill worked part time for Taylor Rental fixing small motors.  He was the handyman for the neighborhood (fixing lawn mowers, chain saws, snowmobiles, etc.).  He also graded the road.  Bill loved to hunt, fish, play cards, snowmobile, bowl (even bowling a 300 game once), telling stories and enjoying the occasional kanuper now & then.

Bill is survived by his sister Dorla (Ralph) Ohlmeier in Centennial, Colorado, sister-in-laws Erma Pursh in South St. Paul, Minnesota & Betty Krone in Mankato, Minnesota, many nieces and nephews, special friends Wendy & Tambra Topp & Barb Flatgaard.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, parents, step father (Arthur Kaatz), two sisters (Myrtle and Edna), three brothers Fred, Conrad and Arthur (Junior).

God bless the memory of Bill Krone.
