Barbara Louise (Prentice) Westbrook

Barbara Westbrook, Asiniwemagak “Rock Earth Woman”, 61, of Redby, MN died Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

Traditional services will be held at the Redby Community Center on Friday, March 9, 2018 with Anton Treuer officiating. A wake begins at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at the Redby Community Center and will continue until the services on Friday. Interment will be in the Westbrook Family Burial Grounds. Arrangements were entrusted to the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.

Barbara was born to Paul and Marian Prentice in Red Lake, MN. She grew up in Redby. Barbara attended Red Lake School and graduated from Red Lake High School in 1975. She went to Haskell Indian School, and when she was done, moved to Minneapolis. She worked various jobs. She moved her family back to Redby and started working for the Red Lake Tribal Bingo and moved up to manager. Barbara overseen the start of the casino in Red Lake. In 1988 she married Thomas “Jambi” Westbrook. Her and Jambi bought the Redby store in 1992. Barbara enjoyed going to the casino, but her true enjoyment was spending time with family. She was a very generous and caring person.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas “Jambi” Westbrook of Redby; children, Joe Kettle, Thomas “T.J.” Westbrook, Chad (Nicole) Prentice, Anna Westbrook, Jared Westbrook, Ashley (Simon) Brun and Lindsey (Rain) Westbrook; 16 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Della Prentice; special grandson, Bellamy Westbrook and special nephew, Alvin Downwind Jr.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles Prentice; sister, Trisha Prentice; daughter, Julie Westbrook; son, Lee Prentice; grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be, Jan Roberts, Doreen Wells, Candance LaGou, Gloria Smith, Diane Howard, Sandy Davidson, Cristine Davidson and Vicky Roy.

Casket Bearers will be, Roger White, Charles Prentice Jr., Robert White, Alvie Downwind Sr., Joe Kettle and Thomas “T.J. Westbrook. Alternates are, Mike Fairbanks and Albert Charnoski Jr.
