Archie Charles Barrett

Archie Barrett, 91, of Red Lake, MN died Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.

A Celebration of Life will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at the Red Lake Community Center. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the center. Arrangements were entrusted to the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.

Archie was born to Charles and Mary Barrett on October 15, 1928. Archie was a life-long resident of the Red Lake Reservation who lived a very full life. He loved hunting, traveling, visiting with family and friends. He was a jack of all trades including welding, farming, logging, worked on the iron range, worked at the sawmill in Redby, owned and operated the Red Lake grocery store. Archie was a master of carpentry, he milled all his own lumber for his house, built the Swirly Top and many houses on the reservation. He grew and sold wild rice, built boats, raised chickens, pigs, plowed gardens and made maple syrup. Archie made many trips to Montana to pan for gold and of course, he was a gambler and won many jackpots.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, children LaNae (Bill) Pemberton, Randy Barrett, Dolly (Paul) Johnson and Merri (Bill) Barrett. He has 7 grandchildren Marilayne May, Jolene Schoenborn, Todd Barrett, Randy Barrett, Chelsi Barrett, Kara Johnson, Matthew Johnson and Leah Barrett.  He has 13 great grandchildren Cash, Carly, Ed, Nia, Aaron, Chalina, Rashaun, Todd, Jordan, Angel, Sydney, Shawna, Sage and 1 sister Della Kinney.
