Steve McGuirk, 71, of Bemidji, MN  died Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at the Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at First Baptist Church with Pastor Stan Nelson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Pine Ridge Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.

Born May 9, 1945 in Fairbury, IL to John and Lucille Youngman. His parents were later divorced. His mother re-married to a Richard McGuirk who adopted Steve. As a young adult he was enrolled in the St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy in Delafield, WI. Steve graduated from Evanston High School, Evanston, IL in 1963. He moved to Bemidji in 1974. In September 1975 he was united in marriage to Linda Norvold. He was employed at the Weld County Sheriff’s office in Greeley, CO from 1978-1989. He accelerated in rank to Lt. In 1988 he was appointed by the Weld Co. Sheriff to attend the FBI National Academy at Quantico, VA. In 1989 he and Linda moved back to Bemidji and started Port-o-Wild’s Security Services, Inc. and private investigation. Retiring in 2003, they spent their winters in Benson, AZ until 2012. He was a private pilot owning his own plane, the patriotic “Spirit of Bemidji”. He was Capt and pilot for the CAP Northland Composite Squadron in Bemidji, a member of the EAA Chapter 1397 of Bemidji and “Young Eagles” program in which he had flown over 500 young adults in the years from 2005-2012. He was a member of the Cessna 150/152 Club, a volunteer in the RSVP program as a tutor, and a past member of the Paul Bunyan Vintage Auto Club. He enjoyed singing at karaoke shows in his retirement years.

He is survived by his wife, Linda of Bemidji.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Youngman; step-father, Richard McGuirk and mother Lucille McGuirk.

Memorials can be directed to the Alzheimers Association, Compassion International or Great River Rescue.
