Odin Granos Olson

Odin Granos Olson, 82, of East Grand Forks, MN died Friday, November 17, 2017 at the Good Samaritan, East Grand Forks, MN.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji, MN.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Bemidji.

Odin Olson was born November 26, 1934 at home in Wilkinson Township, Cass County MN to Fred and Millie (Newell) Olson. He grew up and graduated high school in Cass Lake, MN. Odin served as an active duty soldier in the United States Army from September 1957 - September 1959. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army Reserve in June of 1961.

While home on leave, he reconnected with Shirley (Sundvall) Olson of Bemidji, MN who would soon become the love of his life and wife of nearly forty years. They were married soon afterwards in Las Vegas. Upon being honorably discharged, Odin and Shirley moved to Cass Lake where he resumed a logging business. Odin and Shirley later moved to Grand Forks, ND where Odin was working on construction at GF Air Force Base. A short time later he began work as a mechanic at Forks Motors in Grand Forks and later to another job as a mechanic with the City of East Grand Forks where he continued to work until his retirement as the Superintendant of Maintenance. Odin had a lifelong passion for classic cars and enjoyed restoring them. He was also a talented carpenter and during his spare time and vacations built numerous family homes with his sons.

After retirement, Odin and Shirley bought a lake home in Bemidji, MN. Together they traveled throughout the country. They especially liked the freedom offered by their RV's to just pick up and go and they often brought grandchildren along for the experience. Shirley, far
too soon, passed away in July of 1998. After her passing, Odin's most cherished later years were spent with his loving family and friends.

He is survived by his sister Goodie Eskridge of Pennington, MN, brother Frank Olson of Surrey, BC, Louis (Gloria) Fournier of Cass Lake, MN; sons, Gordon (Debra) Olson of Temecula, CA, Ronald Olson of Cummings, ND, Michael (Lisa) Olson of Proctor, MN, Randy Olson of East Grand Forks, MN, and Steven Olson East of Grand Forks, MN; 15 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley; brother, Dan Olson, sister Mable Olson; parents Fred and Millie Olson.
