Marguerite Edna (Earling) Shofner

Marguerite Edna Shofner, age 91, Bemidji, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at Tamarack Court, Bemidji.

Memorial Services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.  Family will greet friends for one hour before the service at the Funeral Home.  Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Marguerite was born January 4, 1926 in rural Bemidji to John and Bertha (Schultz) Earling, the youngest of seven children.  She attended elementary school in Solway and then in Bemidji where she graduated from high school June 2, 1943. After graduating high school Marguerite worked for a short time in Chicago IL, and for Dr James in Bemidji. Marguerite married Russell Shofner August 28, 1948. They raised three children, Keith, Diane and Kirby. After her children were grown she worked in the high school cafeteria until her retirement in 1978.  She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren in sports, bowling, curling, golf, music, playing cards, traveling and the occasional trip to a casino. She was happiest when surrounded by her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.

She is survived by her son Keith (Ellen) Shofner, of Arlington Heights IL; Daughter Diane (Norman) Pettis,  Sebeka MN; four grandchildren: Jeremy (Colby) Pettis, Benjamin Shofner, Brandon Shofner, Breanna Shofner; two great-grandchildren: Brantley Pettis, Peyton Pettis and (soon to be three Weston); one sister Kathryn Lizotte of Chicago Il. A special Thank You to the Staff at Tamarack Court for their wonderful care of Mom.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Russell, son Kirby, brothers, John, George & David Earling; sisters, Marie Flieger & Ruth Rappleye.

In Lieu of Flowers family prefers Memorials to Sanford Bemidji Home Care & Hospice.
