Logan James Gilbert

Logan James Gilbert, 20, of Bemidji, Minnesota passed away on Monday August 21st, 2017 at the University of Missouri Hospital.

Funeral services will be held in Bemidji, MN at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home on Monday, August 28th from 9:30 am.  Interment to follow with military honors at Camp Ripley Cemetery in Little Falls, MN at 3 p.m.

Logan was born in St. Cloud, MN on December 22nd, 1996 to Patricia Gilbert and Michael Chard.  He graduated from Bemidji High School where he was active in sports and ROTC.  At the age of 17, he enlisted in the National Guard and attended his basic training.  Following his graduation in 2015, he completed Advanced Infantry Training.  In the fall of 2015, he transferred to the Missouri National Guard, Alpha Company 138th Infantry Battalion. He attended University of Missouri (Mizzou) as a ROTC cadet where he made the Dean’s list.  In 2016, he completed Air Assault School at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri.  In 2017, he was promoted to the rank of E-5 SGT.  In the summer of 2017, he completed the 26.2-mile Baatan Memorial Death March in Nevada.

His many interests included Ruck marching, weight lifting, obstacle races, gaming, reading, music, outdoors, hunting and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his parents, Patricia Gilbert and Michael Chard of Bemidji, sister Mariah (Brent) Gilbert-Ferdig of Bemidji, brother Sean M. Chard of Duluth, MN, paternal grandparents, Tom and Bridget Chard of Pine City, MN.

Logan is preceded in death by sister, Angela Gilbert of Bemidji and maternal grandparents Bill and Arlene Gilbert of Sauk Rapids MN.

Logan was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him.  He inspired countless people through his caring and his selfless nature.
