Lelia Lee (Hommer) Singer

Lelia “Lee” Singer, 102, of Bemidji, MN died Sunday, March 12, 2017 at GoldPine Home, Bemidji.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 17, 2017 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji with Pastor Arlo Feiock officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Aardahl Lutheran Cemetery, Bemidji.

Lelia Lee Hommer was born January 11, 1915 in Ackworth, IA to John Henry and Laura Virginia (Booth) Hommer. She graduated from high school in Chicago. On June 6, 1936 she married Frank Singer. While in Chicago, they had a restaurant for 7 years and then moved to Bemidji and bought Call O the Wild Resort on Grace Lake in 1953. They spent the summer here and then went back to Chicago and she worked at Time Magazine for the winter. After they sold the resort in 1962 Lee worked at Bemidji State University as equipment manager until she retired in 1980. While at the University, she was treasurer of the Union, was on the water safety patrol at Grace Lake for 10 years, fire warden for 25 years, worked for the Headwaters advisory committee for 12 years, was chairperson for Title 3 B for Headwater, served as president of Council on Aging for Hubbard County, served as president, secretary and treasurer of the Guthrie Nary Club. Lee was also on the board of directors and then president of the Cass Lake Senior Club. She and her husband started the Grace Lake Improvement Association in 1953 and served as secretary and treasurer for 20 years. Lee was outstanding Senior Citizen of Hubbard County in 1989, was a volunteer driver for R.S.V.P. for Mahube for 6 years, picked up commodities at Park Rapids and handed them out at the Nary School and is a member of the Bethany Free Lutheran Church.

She is survived by 10 nieces and nephews; 3 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank Singer; daughter, Diana Oset; son, Robert Singer; grandson Frankie Robert; granddaughter, Julie; brothers, Elmer, Earnest, Cecil, Hubert and Charles Hommer and sisters, Ethel Day, Ardell Floyd, Flo Angelino and Grace Keller.
