A candle was lit by Gary and Peggy Starbuck on January 14, 2018 2:25 PM
Dear John & Mary,
Gary & I are the parents of Joy Leister who is married to Evan Leister. We express our great sadness at Lauren’s homegoing. Joy told us how much she enjoyed Lauren at Thanksgiving. We never met her, but understand she lived life well and built into others along her journey. We have been praying for you over the last month, and will continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers! Lovingly with heartfelt sympathy, Gary and Peggy Starbuck. Memphis, TN

Lauren was always a warmth of happiness during my time in college. She was able to find adventure in every aspect of the experience, whether connecting with her dorm mates and residents or taking us out on adventures in Saint Paul or beyond. She had a very positive impact in my life and I will always remember her with love and gratefulness for her friendship.

Lauren was a superb, conscientious - hard-working student--and a great pleasure to travel with. Twenty-one days in north India. A bracing - positive presence with her infectious smile. Several times with langurs' hands reaching out all along the way, Lauren crossed and recrossed the Lakshman Jula footbridge above the sacred Ganga at Rishikesh in the company of her class mates and Hindu monks, motorcycles and cows, pilgrim families and rare Himalaya anchorites--ever with wonder and with the utmost grace.

Lauren was a gem. ..treating everyone like a good friend. She showed no partiality and loved all she came in contact with God's love. I only knew her for a short time but will be glad to spend eternity with her someday.

Rachael and Family, I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. I pray you find a bit of peace in this tragic time.

Parable of Immortality

I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze
and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength,
and I stand and watch until at last she hangs
like a speck of white cloud
just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says,
" There she goes! "
Gone where?
Gone from my sight . . . that is all.
She is just as large in mast and hull and spar
as she was when she left my side
and just as able to bear her load of living freight
to the place of destination.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her.
And just at the moment
when someone at my side says,
" There she goes! "
there are other eyes watching her coming . . .
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout . . .
" Here she comes! "

Lauren’s family and Ethan,
We are so sorry for your loss. We only got to meet Lauren once when Ethan brought her to our wedding in September. She gave us the most sincere wedding gift and card. Out of all the attendees at our wedding, her gift was our favorite. She gave us a puzzle and reminded us to always take time out of our busy lives to spend time with each other. Her card is still hanging on our refrigerator as a reminder of her thoughtful words. Although we only met her once, she truly touched our hearts. Our prayers are with you in this time of sadness.

My heart aches for all of you. Lauren was pure joy—she interned at the Beltrami County Attorney’s Office when she was a senior in high school. We sent her fun college “care packages”because she touched all of us. When she came back to Bemidji she reached out to me and brought lunch and we caught up again, and she even dog sat for us one weekend. I know Lauren had a tremendous strong faith as she spoke freely of it. I know she is singing and dancing with the other angels. She was one of a kind and will be missed by many.
