Dorothy Puttbrese, 85, of Bemidji, MN died Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.
Private burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji. Arrangements were entrusted to the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji.
Dorothy Delila Paine was born July 21, 1931 in Durand Township, MN to Brackett and Florence (Gay) Paine. She graduated from Bemidji High School in 1949. She met her husband William while she worked as a cook and baker at Kiene Farms in Kennedy, Minnesota. They were married in Puposky, MN on August 5, 1954. Following their marriage, she and her husband managed Dr. Garlock's Dairy Farm in Bemidji for several years before she became a fulltime mother. Later, she worked for Edgewater Motel, and then retired from Holiday Inn of Bemidji. She was a devoted wife and mother who was proud of her children and grandchildren. She worked very hard to help her children attend college and obtain professional degrees. She was an accomplished cook, and was known for her excellent fresh baked bread, cinnamon rolls and pies. Nobody ever left her house hungry. She kept care of her mother and husband through extended illnesses She was intelligent, honest, kind and generous. And, she will be greatly missed by her family who loved her.
She is survived by daughter, Janice Puttbrese of Bemidji; son, Calvin (Sandra) Puttbrese of Baxter, MN; 2 grandchildren, Nathan & Hannah, brothers, Robert (Deloris) Paine of Puposky, Darold Paine of Virginia, Benjamin (Myrna) Paine of Aurora and Charlie (Caroline) Paine of Makinen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Puttbrese and brother, Donald Paine.
Family prefers memorials to the Bemidji Food Shelf or Great River Rescue.
