Donald Hulbert Casement

Donald Casement, 87, of Bemidji, MN died Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Nielson Place, Bemidji.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 1, 2017 at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji with Fr. Don Braukmann officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Inurnment will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Oak Grove Cemetery, Fordville, ND, followed by a meet and greet at the Fordville American Legion.

Donald Casement was born September 27, 1929 in Fordville, ND to Hulbert and Hazel Casement. He grew up in Fordville and graduated from Fordville High School. Don attended the University of North Dakota, earning a degree in business and a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army ROTC. He served in the Army overseas and was honorably discharged in 1954. After his military service, Don attended the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science in Milwaukee. It was in Milwaukee where he met his wife-to-be Georgine Wingers. Don and Georgine were married in 1964 and made their home in Fordville. Don and Georgine operated Casement Implement and Casement Funeral Home, retiring from the funeral business in 1984 and the John Deere dealership in 1992, at which time they moved to Long Lake near Bemidji, MN.

During his retirement years, Don enjoyed his lake home, living the lake life, supporting UND and Bemidji State University athletics and his time with special friend Matt.

Don is survived by his wife, Georgine Casement of Bemidji; sons John (Kris) Casement of Savage, MN, David (Mary Beth) Casement of St. Paul, MN and Kevin (Alana) Casement of Langdon, Alberta, Canada; grandchildren Daniel, Victoria, Ellie, Elizabeth and Leah; sister-in-law Lucina Michels of Bloomington, IL and brother-in-law Elroy Wingers of Clive, IA and several nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Eleanor McConnell, Jean Smallbeck, Vivian Whitney and Hazeldean McMahon and brother, Richard Casement.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Sanford Bemidji Cardiology Center and Pregnancy Help Center, Bemidji, MN.
