David Wayne O'Brien

David W. O’Brien, 75, of Bemidji, MN died September 21, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, September 29, 2017 at St. Philips Catholic Church, Bemidji with Fr. Chuck Huck officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church.  Interment 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 2017 in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dorchester, Iowa (at the intersection of Washington & Dorchester Roads).

David Wayne O’Brien was born December 25, 1941 in Black River Falls, WI to Eugene & Arleen O’Brien.  He grew up and graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1959.  After high school, David entered the US Army and served in country until being honorably discharged in July of 1965.  On September 12, 1964 he was united in marriage to Jane Cavanaugh in La Crosse, WI.  David went on to attend mechanical engineering in La Crosse.  From that point on he worked for Doboy Industries and finally retiring from Delkor Manufacturing in 2006.  The last 8 years, he spent his winters in Yuma, AZ where he made so many friends.  David enjoyed traveling, fishing, golfing and playing cards.  He loved spending time with his family and friends and especially his grandkids. 

He is survived by son, Kevin (Donna) O’Brien and daughter Kimberley(Michael) Maffei both of Suwanee, GA; grandkids, Parker O’Brien, Brandon & Brady Maffei; very special friend, Nancy Savard, Bemidji; sister, Tookins Ripp, Merrillan, WI; brothers, Denny (Diane) O’Brien, Trempealeau, WI and Gary (Betty) O’Brien, Blaine, MN.  David is preceded in death by his parents, wife Jane, grandson, Cooper O’Brien and brother-in-law, Don Ripp.
