Crystal Kay Westrum

Crystal Westrum, 55, of Bemidji, died Saturday, May 27, 2017, at her home after a courageous battle against cancer.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 1, 2017 at First Lutheran Church, Bemidji with Pastor Linnea Papke-Larson officiating.  Visitation will be 5-7:00p.m., Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji and one hour before service at the church.  Interment will be at Seljord Cemetery near Clearbrook, MN.

Crystal Westrum was born July 12, 1961 in Bemidji, MN to Harvey & Dorothy Westrum.  She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church where she would become a lifelong member and volunteer as a Sunday school teacher.   Her faith, other than being a caregiver, was one of the most important influences in her life.  At the age of 16, Crystal started working as a nurse’s aid at the Beltrami Nursing Home then home health care for Beltrami County while also working for Rutgers Birchmont Lodge.  She then worked for Bemidji Management Company until early retirement due to health reasons.  Crystal then spent time traveling with her daughter, crafting and building a connection with God- living life to the fullest.  She was a Godmother to Joe, Trisha and Becca.

Crystal is survived by her daughter Elizabeth (Andy Hockenson); friend Richard Lindom; brothers, Thomas (Candy), Milo, Rick (Leilani), and Larry Westrum; sisters, Paulette Willet, Sharon (Lee) Cluff and Cheryl Fedje.  She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Bruce; sister, Virginia Lindstrom and sister-in-law, Sandy Westrum.
