Arthur “Art” Kaasa, 90, of Bemidji, MN slipped away peacefully on February 18, 2018 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.
A Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home with Pastor Kent Dudley officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Arthur John Kaasa was born on the family farm near Nebish on November 12, 1927 to Eivind and Nina Kaasa. He attended Pleasant Valley School until the eighth grade. He moved to Bemidji and married Marilyn Schroth on May 17, 1952. Together they raised two daughters. He remained in Bemidji until his death. Art worked for Land-O-Lakes Creamery, Nesbitt’s Bottling Co., Erickson-Hellickson Vye Lumberyard and UBS as well as co-owning an insulation business and flipping houses. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, tinkering in the garage and spending time with friends and family.
Art is survived by his daughters, Sharon (Charles) Phillips and Cindy (Michael) O’Keefe; 5 grandchildren, Alanna Phillips, Kassie (Lee) Warren, Sean (Julie) Phillips, Jennalee (Marcus) Mihulka and Jeremy (Callie) O’Keefe; 4 great-grandchildren, Aiden Phillips, Clayton Warren, Maximus Mihulka and Etta Warren; brother, Robert Kaasa; sister, Jean Roberts and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
He will join his family that preceded him in death, parents, Eivind and Nina Kaasa; wife, Marilyn Kaasa; twin sons, John and Jerry Kaasa; brothers, Orben, Butch, Leroy, Norval, Ed and Arlak and sisters, Irene Runyan and Leanore Workman.
His family would like to acknowledge the kindness of his special friends in his neighborhood, the Senior Center of Bemidji and Trinity Lutheran Church of Pony Lake.
